DOWNTOWN Located in historical Charlotte Amalie |
|
| Hi
Sue,
Just wanted to let you know that everyone in our party was very happy with the GREEN IGUANA! I was especially pleased as I was the one who booked it! No flack from anyone, only good reports! Thanks for everything......should we be lucky enough to get back to St. Thomas anytime soon, we'll be sure to stay with you! |
|
| I stayed here on business for 14 nights. Frankly, as far as location, comfort, and facilities, I could not have done better. It was a good value, and is a good hotel for anyone visiting on business. Wireless internet was a real bonus. | |
| We
found the Green Iguana Hotel on the Internet, and booked our stay for seven
nights. The ease of making our reservation was wonderful. We found the
location and comfort of the hotel to be great. The hotel was secure, and
the location made for an easy drive for island touring and beach going.
Also, the hotel price was a great value. The room was very clean and nicely
decorated making our stay very comfortable.
Sue and Buddy, the care takers, were great. Their recommendations for dining and site seeing opportunities worked out well for us. Thank you, Sue and Buddy, for a great stay, and for making our vacation super. |
|
| This was a very clean and quiet place to stay, and it was only a nice stroll to all the shopping. Buddy and Sue are glad to assist you with any requests, and we enjoyed their hospitality. Don't be afraid of the 99 (103) steps. It was a nice walk. Also, don't miss stopping for a taste of rum along this path. They say don't walk this path at night, but we did not see any shady characters. | |
| This
was our sixth stay in five years. We always stay at the Green Iguana. We
have met many locals, and they agree this is one of the best kept secrets
on the island. Many have said that it is where they stayed when they first
got to the island - and just loved it. We agree!
Thank you for your hospitality, and we look forward to seeing you soon. |
|
| This was my second stay at the Green Iguana. My room was great, as I had all the amenities I needed - and I had a great view. The walk into town for drinks, food, and shopping was just five minutes. Once in town, you can take an open Safari taxi for $2 and go to Red Hook (ferries). The managers are courteous and helpful. I'll stay here again next time I'm in St. Thomas. No problems! | |
| This
was my second stay at the Green Iguana. My daughter, who lives on the island,
recommended this nice little get away. It is quiet, not like a busy hotel.
I feel safe, as there is a security lock on the main door that only guests
can get into. The rooms also have safes.
Our room was clean, and housekeeping was excellent. There is a good size refrigerator and microwave, also. I will always recommend this nice little island get away. |
|
| This is an incredible hotel
sitting above Charlotte Amalie. I appreciated how there was a lock on the
main door to get into the hotel, and then our room had three locks (including
a deadbolt). We also had a full-sized kitchen, which was awesome.
The hostess was terrific. I had requested an air mattress for my father (who would sleep on the fold out bed), and they followed through (unlike many chain hotels). We received excellent service, and enjoyed wonderful views. If I ever return to St. Thomas, this is where I will stay! |
|
| We spent our first day here before a sailing trip in BVI. The room was so comfortable, and it was great for picking up food in town and reheating for an evening meal in the room. | |
| Fodor’s CHOICE 2006 & 2007
Atop Blackbeard’s Hill, the little inn offers the perfect mix of gorgeous harbor views, proximity to town and the shopping( five minutes away by foot, and secluded privacy provided by the surrounding flamboyant trees and bushy hibiscus. Accommodations range from a roomy, top floor junior suite with two queen beds, to a balcony room with queen bed and full kitchen, or smaller Garden room with king bed. All rooms have air conditioning, telephones, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and coffee makers. Guests have use of washers and dryers. There’s also a picnic area with a gas barbeque grill. The managing couple live on the property and are very helpful in giving restaurant, sight seeing, or beach suggestions. |
|
| Frommer's Review: 2006 & 2007
Sitting on Blackbeard's Hill, in the center of Charlotte Amalie, this is one of the best run and most comfortable small inns to open in town in many a year. The little inn lies only a 5-minute walk from the center of town, with all its shops, restaurants, and bars. Magen Beach is a 10-minute drive over the hill. The midsize bedrooms, decorated in a tropical motif with wicker furnishings, have panoramic views of the harbor, the constantly arriving cruise ships, and the other Virgin Islands. You have a choice of a king-size, queen-size, or twin-size bed, and each room features a tiled bathroom with shower. The helpful managers live on the property. |
|
| Dear Mike and Linda - I
want to thank you personally for your part in helping us have such a great
time in St. Thomas. This vacation was special to us, celebrating
our 45th wedding anniversary, and we will never forget it.
I know a lot of people are used to the big mega resorts with all of the amenities, but we liked the lower budget but clean accommodations with the kitchen facilities that the Green Iguana provided us. We have been so worried about our son-in-law who is totally helpless due to ALS, and our daughter who is taking care of him, and this get away helped to heal our souls as well as our minds. Someday I would love to have our daughter and her children join us for a trip to St. Thomas when this is all over. Thanks also for serenading us with the dulcimer. You are both so friendly and are a big part of the success of the Green Iguana, and we are sure if the owner reads the reviews, he already knows that! J & M |
|
| My
wife and I (along with five teenagers) recently concluded a sailing vacation
by spending five days at the Green Iguana. The rooms were clean,
and the view from the next door neighbor (Black Beards Castle) was the
best. Also, the use of their three pools was a splashing success with all
of us.
The hidden value of this place was the husband and wife managerial team. Mike and Linda were simply the best you will find anywhere in the world. J.C. from West Branch, Michigan, USA |
|
| The
Green Iguana was a hidden paradise. It was home away from home. The best
of our stay was the warm welcome and the hospitality shown by Michael and
his wife, Linda. They were very good to us.

|
| The
Green Iguana was a wonderful little "inn" type hotel. My mother and I stayed
in an adorable room with a balcony and full kitchen overlooking the Charlotte
Amalie area. It shared three pools with Blackbeard's Hotel. Each pool was
on a different level of the mountain, and was beautifully decorated, offering
lots of sun.
The best part was the manager and his wife. They were a delightful couple ready to accommodate each guest's needs. They were extremely knowledgeable of St. Thomas - as well as the other islands and were really enjoyable to share life stories with. Vicky and Michele |
|
| I
visited St. Thomas for the first time to attend a friend's wedding. We
stayed at the Green Iguana and were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were
attractive, clean, and offered great views of the island.
The hotel was located near everything. Shopping, great restaurants, ferry transit, museums, the post office, and so much more were all within a five-ten minute walk from the hotel. The people of St. Thomas were the friendliest folks I have met. Within the past ten months, I've visited Disney World, Mexico, and Key West. St. Thomas was by far the least expensive (excluding airfare) and the most enjoyable place. I promise you, if you stay at the Green Iguana, you will not be disappointed. By the way, I received nothing for writing this other than a great stay! Aric |
|
| The
Green Iguana was even better than we expected. The room was very clean
and neat, and the tropical gardens were well kept. We enjoyed the view
from our balcony. We took advantage of being next door to Blackbeard's
Castle; the tower, the bronze statues of pirates, the museums and the view
were amazing.
We wanted to explore the island a bit, and The Green Iguana was in a great location; close enough to good eating, shopping and taxis. We enjoyed the walk down and back up the 99 steps many times a day! Mike was very helpful and friendly, and we felt very well looked after! We hope to get back to St. Thomas and The Green Iguana some day. Wayne and Jackie |
|
| The
Green Iguana was a great place to stay. The rooms were good sized, clean
and nicely decorated. Mike, the manager, gave great advice on where to
eat, what to see and how to get there.
We enjoyed being able to walk up and down the 99 steps to downtown Charlotte Amalie for ice cream, chocolates, a little shopping or some rum tasting. We rented a car and drove ALL over the island. We saw many other hotels and resorts, but none offered the value, location or casual comfort of the Green Iguana. John and Suz |
|
| We
had a very quiet room with a great view of the harbor. It was centrally
located just "99 steps" from downtown, yet only minutes away from Magens
Bay. The manager took very personal care of us during our stay and made
us feel right at home.
Mike |
|
| Our
room was very clean with a great view of the city and harbor. It was very
quiet and relaxing. And whatever questions we had about the island,
the general manager was there to help. This is one place you will
never regret staying at without seeing first.

|
| The
Green Iguana is like bringing a little bit of the country into town. It
is scenic, quiet, and peaceful and a five-minute walk from shopping and
dining.
Mike and Linda do an excellent job of keeping the place clean, bright, and cheerful. Mike's advice is like having concierge service at a five-star hotel. It is hard to imagine a better time than drinking morning coffee on the balcony while watching the sea planes come and go. John and Paula |
|
| We
found the Green Iguana to be friendly, clean and scenic. It was close to
town and historic sites. Mike and Linda treated us like family. We wouldn't
dream of staying any other place.
Tom |
|
| The
Green Iguana is not just a place to rest your head. The innkeepers, Mike
and Linda, provide you with a place to rest your soul.
The serenity starts with the calming decorative schemes of the rooms and views of the water and/or pastural hillside from your room. The tranquility continues with pampering by Mike and Linda whose laid-back attitude is contagious! Even Coki, their dog, can teach you a thing or two about relaxing and enjoying the simpler things in life like trying to catch a lizard. You come to the Green Iguana beleaguered travelers and go home carefree and already anticipating your next return. We know - we've returned three times already and are planning our next visit within the year. Leisa and Steve Braband |
|
| I'm
reluctant to praise The Green Iguana too much for fear of it becoming too
popular. What a relaxing and quaint find just five-ten minutes walk to
downtown shopping.
Beware, it is a steep walk down the famous "99 steps" which my kids have decided is actually 104 steps. The rooms were clean, the atmosphere was relaxing and the management was very accommodating. We'll be back! Tom |
|
| The
Green Iguana was such a beautiful and quiet place to enjoy our time on
vacation.
Our room was the best place we have ever stayed in. It was like an apartment with a full kitchen, with a nice relaxing area, a gorgeous bathroom and a balcony with a remarkable view of the ocean. We couldn't have asked for better accommodations. We also loved that The Green Iguana was only a five-minute walk to town. We were in St. Thomas to get married and honeymoon for two weeks, and they were the best weeks of our lives thanks to Mike - he was the best. We highly recommend The Green Iguana! Johnny and Kimberly |
|
| This
was our first visit to St. Thomas and this was our second place to stay
(and best). This was a learning experience for us. I will return and this
is where we will stay. I can highly recommend it.

|
| We
are so sorry we forgot to hand over the key to Room A-6. Perhaps
subconsciously we wanted to hang onto it, so on our return we could just
let ourselves into the same adorable room. We both want to thank
you for a wonderful last night in the islands. Our stay at The Green
Iguana capped off a very lovely and interesting journey while celebrating
our 40th birthday.
Donna |
|
| Mike
... all the remarks about The Green Iguana I read on the Internet before
Pat and I arrived were true. A-6 was a great room with a view of
St. Thomas and the bay ... super clean and very quiet. Your hospitality
was greatly appreciated. We had a wonderful visit. Thank you.

|

|
| Thank
you so much for the picture. Martin and I enjoyed our stay very much in
your hotel. We traveled to St. John and then Tortolla following our stay
with you and although both destinations were lovely, The Green Iguana gave
us the nicest, cleanest and best value accommodation. Thank you again.

|
| Mike,
Anna and I were not able to find you when we left, so I wanted to write
and tell you that we had a marvelous time at the Green Iguana. It
was just right and added to a special vacation. Your advice on the
local spots and suggestions for restaurants was very helpful.
We wish you well and we hope to see you again! Thank you! Sean & Anna |
|
| Greetings
from Arizona,
We wanted to thank you for your hospitality while we were guests at your fine establishment, 26-28 July. We had a lovely time in St. Thomas, and thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations at the Green Iguana. The location was ideal for our adventures on foot. We were even getting used to climbing the 99 Steps. Thank you again. Until our next visit to St. Thomas, adios amigos! Karen & Brian |
|
| I
had stayed at some very nice hotels for work around the world, but I loved
staying at the Green Iguana the most! I like the rooms of course,
but I like the way you run the little hotel the most - warm and friendly.
I could not expect anything better than what you guys offered us. Thank
you again for everything and enjoy your summer.

|

We missed you at the wedding at Betsy's last night! Thank you for everything. We really enjoyed our stay here - we'll send you a picture. God bless. Mark & Marilee |

|
| Dear
Mike,
Thank you for the time we spent there. It was a great opportunity for us to get some shopping done, and a great deal for my wallet. We enjoyed our stay, and the room was clean as a whistle. We loved the view, and your kindness which can't be beat anywhere. Thanks again, and we'll see you next time. Bill & Cassandra |

| Hi
Mike & Linda,
A short note to let you know how much I enjoyed my stay at "The Iguana." Kathy from Dallas |
|
| The
Ratcliffs, who manage the hotel, were very sweet and helpful. Our
room was very large, clean, and well-appointed. I cannot imagine
a better bargain in St. Thomas, and cannot say enough good things about
it.
